OPEN GOVERNMENT DATA ACT


Article II of H.R. 4174 (14 January 2019) requires the Air Force to (1) develop and maintain a comprehensive data inventory for all data assets created or collected by the Air Force, (2) make Air Force data available and accessible to the public unless it is exempt, (3) make public data assets available in a machine-readable format, and (4) catalog public data assets online.
 
The Air Force Chief Data Officer (SAF/CO) is responsible for Enterprise Data Management and compliance with the OPEN Government Data Act on behalf of the Air Force. 
 
The SAF/CO is responsible for submitting an annual report to inform DoD and Congress on compliance with the OPEN Government Data Act, including:
 
  • Participation across the Air Force
  • Frequency and currency of data releases
  • Usability of data assets, including the standardization of data formats
  • Data stewardship best practices
  • Data life cycle management and disposal
